Around....for now?

Water Count: 4

I'm starting a daily water count, because it's good for you. The number denotes the number of bottles I've had to date. Goal is 6-8 per day. Wish me and my bladder luck =)

I just got back last night at 9 PM from Berkeley. It was super fun and I'm go glad I was there to watch my friend graduate. The ceremony was really nice, I got a pretty good tan all things considered, and I'm borrowing her papasan chair for the next month and a half (yay!).

Right now my major personal concern is what to do w/ my weekend. The camp that I'm working at this summer has a staff retreat this weekend. My parents have offered to fly me home for it so I can attend, but I'm not sure whether I want to spend another weekend out of town. I feel like all I've been doing lately is traveling or hosting guests. Plus, there are some people at Stanford I want to hang out with before the year ends and most of them graduate.

So, in a nutshell, I'm not sure what to do.

Haven't catched DH & B&S yet, so I'll post my thoughts when I do. Meanwhile, if you watch DWTS, vote! Especially for Apolo & Julianne, b/c I love them.

Happy Monday!

Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer...

by friends, I mean The Graduate, and my enemies I mean Kal. ;-)

Right now I'm in Berkeley, home of the golden bears, for graduation #1. This one is for my best friend, who is Pi Beta Kappa and is graduating with an honors degree in English. Tonight her parents are taking her and her friends to a fancy dinner, and tomorrow is her graduation.

Stay tuned for pictures!

Earlier today I was running errands in Menlo Park, First I got a pedicure, then my hair cut, THEN I went to Stanford for the Pac-10 Track Championships. My lil sis, Melis, threw Shot Put. It was super fun to watch her throw, and the weather was beautiful :-)

Anyway, off to the party! ~C

I heart Brad & Angelina

Angelina Jolie: Why I Decided to Have a Baby

Angelina won't marry but wants more kids

Both are based on an upcoming interview featured in Reader's Digest, which will be available May 22.

In personal news, tomorrow I'm going to see my friend throw shotput in the Pac-10 Championships (http://gostanford.cstv.com/sports/c-track/spec-rel/051007aac.html), and then driving to Berkeley for graduation festivities.

Happy weekend (3 in a row =) ! ~C

I put my pain management knowledge to good use today...

So my boss (well, one of the partners in the group) broke up a dog fight and in the process, broke a finger one one hand and messed up the other hand pretty bad =) .

Of course, they gave her Vicodin for the pain (which, honestly, doesn't work for many people) so I told her that my doctor said I could take advil at the same time as the Vicodin. For me, that worked like a charm, and also helps with the swelling (and Vicodin does nothing for swelling btw). Anyway, I hope for her sake that helps, it really sucks to have that kind of pain when you don't have use of your hands and feel obligated to be at work.

In other news, I watched "Stick It" last night. It's a gymnastics movie which was actually pretty entertaining. I wish there was more gymnastics in it but I understand that finding that many good gymnasts to be stunt doubles is probably hard. Plus the lead actress in the movie seemed WAY TOO TALL to be an elite gymnast, but that's just my opinion. Anyway, if you like Gym, rent it, it's fun. Missy Elliot also does this really good song for the soundtrack, called "We run this - Stick It edit"

That's it for now. 2 posts in a row - pretty good! ~C

Some websites I like...

It occurred to me while writing my last post that there are some websites I should share.

www.televisionwithoutpity.com - Recaps and message boards for all of the hot shows (and by all, I mean all...even The Search for the Next Doll had a message board) The message boards in particular are a good source for spoilers ( I knew the correct order of elimination for The Amazing Race All Stars at the beginning of the season)

www.greyswriters.com - This is the Writers Blog for Grey's Anatomy. They always do a post a day after any new episode. They're an interesting read and sometimes a good source of information.

www.spoilerfix.com - This is my TV spoilers site. For those of you who like to read spoilers (like me) this is a good place to go. They cover Greys', Desperate Housewives, Veronica Mars, Heroes, Brothers & Sisters, Lost, Prison Break, Smallville, Ugly Betty, etc. You would be suprised by how much can be spoiled

www.trent.blogspot.com (aka www.Pinkisthenewblog.com) - This is the celebrity and pop culture site that I visit daily. Trent is awesome and has the funniest commentary on celeb gossip.
Yes, I know, I'm a bad blogger....

I'm having trouble remembering that I have this blog, plus I'm a boring person so I don't know what to write...

2 Topics today: Gilmore Girls & Dancing w/ the Stars

Gilmore Girls made me cry. Especially when Rory was getting her diploma. It was emotional partly because the series is almost over and partly because my memories of this time in Rory's life are so fresh, plus all of my friends are about to graduate so that doesn't help...

Anyway, I was happy that Rory said no to Logan's proposal but was disappointed in the way he took it. A hug would've been nice!

I also LOVED Richard and Emily's song and the way Emily was fixated on Logan's proposal and Richard wanted Lorelai to relax and taken in Rory's grad.

One episode left, I'm sure that one will make me cry even more. (I cried during the last episode of Boy Meets World, so I'm sure there will be waterworks next Tuesday)

I don't tend to watch the DWTS results show, mostly because it's boring and the musical guests are lame. However I did read the recap on www.televisionwithoutpity.com which is a wonderful website for TV junkies like me. I was quite surprised that Joey was in the Bottom 2 w/ Billy Ray Cyrus, but since everyone knew who was going home no matter what it didn't really matter.

As long as Apollo and Julianne are in the finals, I'm a happy camper. Vote for the a www.abc.com.

(On a side note, I'm so excited for National Bingo Night on ABC starting May 18. Starting this Friday you can print out bingo cards for it and you can play as many as you want from home!)

Mitt Romney for President?

Let me start this off by saying, no, I am not LDS. But, there are a lot of close friends who are or used to be.

There are some generalizations I think I can make about Orange County Mormons. I don't know about anywhere else, nor especially Utah, at least not firsthand (my friends tell me stories). With that said, I know Romney grew up in Michigan, so he didn't have the Utah Mormon experience either. However, there are some commonalities between him and many Mormons I know:

1. He went to BYU undergrad (he actually was at Stanford first, but transferred after his mission...which brings me to:

2. He went on a mission (to France)

3. He got married soon after returning from his mission

4. He is an active member of the LDS church, and he has said that he doesn't drink, smoke, or drink coffee or tea

Here are some differences between him and many Mormons:

1. He didn't start at BYU, he went to Stanford first, and then transferred, probably so he could be near his girlfriend. (sigh...if he were a Stanford alum, I probably would consider voting Republican this time around, we need someone other than Herbert Hoover...lol)

2. His wife was not raised Mormon, she converted after they had started dating

3. He didn't grow up in Utah.

So I've been asking myself whether I would be ok with having a President who is Mormon, but after looking at this, I've realized that it isn't the question I should be asking. I should be asking,

"Am I ok with the fact that Mitt Romney is Mormon, and would I vote for him knowing that fact."

A few caviats:

1. It is unlikely that I will vote for a Republican in the 2008 general election.

2. I genuinely believe that religion is different from race or gender, because of the behaviors that go along with faith. I think President Bush has frequently made decisions with the help of his faith during his Presidency, and I'd expect any person of faith to do the same in that position. Gender and Race also come with behavioral generalizations, but I think they are easier to see with a specific religion such as LDS than they are for genetic traits.

Anyway, I will continue thinking about this, these are just preliminary thoughts, and would appreciate any comments/opinions/etc.
So much for the post below....

Tonight's the national championship game, pitting Florida vs. Ohio State. Apparently most people think Florida was unstoppable in this tourney and that tonight will be no exception, so we'll see. I picked Ohio State to beat UCLA in the final game, so I guess I'm rooting for the Buckeyes, but I'm not as hopeful as I would have been, had UCLA been able to pull off an upset.

At least Arron Afflalo was a good sport about the loss this time...

Yeah I know, it's been awhile, so sue me.

Exciting news from Sunday.....
We're IN!

11th Seeded Stanford Cardinal plays 6th Seed Louisville Cardinals in the First Round of the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament

Thursday, 9:40 AM PST CBS

(Which means I'll be going into work late that day)

Unfortunately, it's practically a home game for Louisville so we're at a major disadvantage. However Stanford is the only team that beat UVA at home so if anyone can pull it off, this team can. GOOD LUCK GUYS!!!

Other than rooting for my team, I'm working on filling out my brackets for the various pools I'll be entering (Facebook, si.com, espn.com, etc.) I'm nervous about those 8-9 games, but with 6 Pac-10 teams in the tourney, I think I've got a handle on a lot of the bracket. But if you have any good advice or information on teams/matchups, please let me know!

Tonight will be a late night at work, partly because I got here late and mostly because there are some major deadlines this week.

There's a story today about Delta Zeta, a sorority, that booted 23 members from a chapter at Depauw University in Indiana.

javascript:cnnVideo('play','/video/us/2007/02/27/oppenheim.sorority.eviction.cnn','2007/03/13');

(CBS) A national sorority's decision to dump two-thirds of the sisters in one of its Indiana houses — possibly because of their looks — is getting national attention and a review from the school of its sororities and fraternities.

The New York Times reported Sunday that national officers of Delta Zeta were worried about a negative stereotype and declining membership in its DePauw University chapter in Greencastle, Ind. Thirty-five sisters were interviewed in November, and 23 were deemed insufficiently committed to the sorority and recruitment. Just before final exams in December, they were told to leave.

They included every woman who was overweight as well as the only black, Korean and Vietnamese members. Even the chapter's president was kicked out. The 12 who remained were slim and conventionally pretty.

"There's no proof of that but when I look around I think to myself, it had to have been" about looks, former sorority member Celeste Gossmann told CBS affiliate WISH-TV. Six of the remaining sisters quit in protest.

"Virtually everyone who didn't fit a certain sorority member archetype was told to leave," Kate Holloway, a senior who withdrew from the chapter during its reorganization, told The Times. "I sensed the disrespect with which this was to be carried out and got fed up." The last straw for Holloway was a recruiting event in November for DePauw freshmen, for which "blond" and "skinny" sorority members from Indiana University were brought in, she told the Indianapolis Star, for which she has worked as a reporting intern. Some of the booted sorority sisters withdrew from classes in depression.

There have been student protests, outraged letters from alumni and parents, and a faculty petition calling the sorority's action unethical. "None of us signed up for a sorority judging us on how we looked," Gossmann told WISH. As a result, DePauw has revised standards for student groups and adding three employees specifically to work with fraternities and sororities, which draw nearly three-quarters of the student body, reports the Star.

The other six sororities on campus have about 100 members each, and Holloway told the Star that the Delta Zeta sisters never ignored the lagging membership. When a psychology professor at the school surveyed students, they described Delta Zeta sisters as "socially awkward." Although it declined interview requests, the sorority did fire back. "Delta Zeta finds it offensive that recent reports have suggested that decisions at DePauw University were related in any way to our members' races and nationalities," the sorority said in a statement on its Web site.

In e-mail to The Times, national executive director Cynthia Winslow Menges said the sorority "is saddened that the isolated incident at DePauw has been mischaracterized." But the sorority also seems to admit it may have made a mistake. "With a steady decline in membership in the Delta Chapter over several years, the viability of the chapter was in question. In the process of addressing that situation, we misjudged how some of our communications would be received by our members, and we regret that," the statement said. Cindy Babington, DePauw's dean of students, told WISH the school had nothing to do with the decision to evict the 23 students from the sorority house, and she hopes it doesn't reflect poorly on DePauw. "I think at this point, we're getting an awful lot of unpopular publicity," Babington told the Star. "I don't know how or if they will survive this."

During rush activities this month, The Times reported, 11 first-year students accepted invitations to join Delta Zeta, but only three have sought membership. Delta Zeta isn't the only problem in DePauw's Greek system. Three fraternities have been on probation in as many years for hazing, university officials said. The university has drawn up new "living standards" for fraternities and sororities, which includes a provision to prevent another incident such as what happened at Delta Zeta. The specific proposals, which DePauw's trustees are expected to approve in April, were not made public. "It really was a statement of wanting our Greek system to be stronger," Babington told the Star. "Many other schools, small schools particularly, have let their Greek systems self-destruct, and we didn't want to let that happen."

Delta Zeta has 165 chapters and is headquartered in Oxford, Ohio. It was founded in 1902 at Miami University there. The DePauw chapter was founded in 1909. © MMVII, CBS Interactive Inc. All Rights Reserved.

As a sorority member, it's interesting to hear about discrimination after a member is initiated. Usually, this type of "weeding-out" is done during recruitment. Nevertheless, it reflects poorly on the whole system and I hope that other chapters make a concerted effort to at least publicly criticize this action. In addition, I hope that young women who go through the recruitment process realize that a chapter isn't defined by how they look. If you choose the chapter that suits your personality the best (as opposed to image), you will be happier in the long run.

A few days ago a friend who helped inspire Christine's Revenge in 2003 told me that my blog was lonely.

So, I'd decided to bring it back (with a much prettier template that wasn't available back then), in the hopes that my friends might find stuff that I post fun to read/look at, discuss, etc.

So stay tuned! ~Christine
(p.s. the picture above is of the Antartic Ice Fish, which was a species recently discovered in Antartica thanks to global warming. For more info and pics go to www.cnn.com)

Stay tuned for a new post on The Revenge of the Blog!

Wow, it's 2005 and I'm posting to this.
My current status:
I'm not longer at Capo and no longer at war with the CSC crew's blog.
I go to stanford, enjoy blogging (see www.myspace.com/calichristine )
And have a life outside of my computer (although not much of one, I'll admit)
I guess the most surprising thing is that I'm still dating Curtis. Yup, it's been 2.5 years, and he's starting at UCLA this september so we will continue this long distance business.

Anyway, that's all for now. I'm tempted to make this my permanant blog b/c it has a cool name, but who knows?

Funny random thing of the day:
So I decide to put something on my AIM profile saying:
"Has anyone else noticed how everyone's paired up now?"
And I get an AWESOME response:
definite props go out to Trumpetguy84:
Trumpetguy84: i have noticed how everyone has a "significance other" these days!
Trumpetguy84: and here's what i think
Trumpetguy84: as humans, we have this inborn instinct (if you want to call it that) to cling to each other when times get tough
Trumpetguy84: with AP exams coming up and lives becoming more stressful (before they slow down again)
Trumpetguy84: we find ourselves needing the comfort of others in similar situations
Trumpetguy84: also, besides the stress part
Trumpetguy84: we're finishing high school in 9 weeks (sweeeeeeeet)
Trumpetguy84: and as we come to the end of a tiring, 4-year ordeal
Trumpetguy84: we desire someone to share it with
Trumpetguy84: and then to share the upcoming with
Trumpetguy84: because, to be alone before being really alone (in college) is ajust a depressing thought
Trumpetguy84: nobody wants to go out quietly
Trumpetguy84: what's that poem by Dylan Thomas? Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night?
Trumpetguy84: yeah, it's kinda like that
Trumpetguy84: but the question that remains is this - how long will these relationships last?
Trumpetguy84: especially if they haven't already been given an execution date (as most of them have, or at least the ones i can think of)
Trumpetguy84: hmmmm....

Defintely blog worthy.

And it's also of note that my wonderful boyfriend decided to surprise me and show up @ my concert. And then we partook in free scoop night @ baskin robbins. Gotta love middle-of-the-week dates! :-)

Now back to reality: Psychology, Gov and Spanish...::sigh::

Monday, April 28, 2003

Hmm...We're happy that Andrew isn't hurt...that's definitely a blessing...but you gotta love the irony about how the safest driver out of all of us is the one who gets in the accident...nice. Oh well, it wasn't his fault anyway.

I must say, I have the sweetest guy as my promdate/boyfriend. Check out his prom post: mgnk.blogspot.com
He's too good to me :-)

Anyway, i must go back to my essay so i get sleep tonite. Gnite!
Prom:::was soooo cool!!! It was really nice, I'm glad I got to go with the sweetest guy I know....but now back to reality....errrr School is a pain, we have so much homework I think i'm going to Scream, WHY DID LAMBERT ASSIGN AN ESSAY A WEEK BEFORE APS START??????? Ok, i've done my venting...

On a more random note, have you ever eaten an orange and it tasted dry? I threw out this large one today cuz it was nastily dry (love my diction). Anyway, just wondering.
